Dear Asper Student:
,
There was a story in the Free Press yesterday related to cyber-bullying. In
brief it appears that a website which targeted a specific student was
created by students associated with the Asper School. The group for the
site numbered approximately 220 -- most taking classes in the Asper School.

Let me state clearly that participation of this nature is completely
unacceptable. It is never appropriate to target an individual in this
manner, through any medium. It is never appropriate, once you have
discovered such activity, to stand by the sideline and do nothing.
We intend to ensure that there is an appropriate learning environment for
all students in the Asper School. The University of Manitoba has a policy
on Respectful Work and Learning Environment -- please read this policy.
Over the course of the next few months, I will be discussing how we as a
School can ensure that the dignity of all students is respected. This will
include discussion on the development of a statement or code of professional
conduct.
If you have any concerns about this or other issues related to the learning
environment in the Asper School, I would ask that you please give me a call
or arrange to meet with me.
Sincerely,
Glenn Feltham
